I have created my own lesson workbooks, as I have found that many available lesson books simply do not excite students. I believe that all serious guitar players will benefit from a foundation of core musical concepts.

Some of the things we will cover include:

• Reading music (standard notation, tab, chord charts, rhythm).

• Musical theory, focus on guitar fundamentals.

• Rhythm and timing.

• Rhythm guitar: Chords and strumming.

• Lead guitar: scales, fretboard, ornamentation and technique.

• Playing songs with other musicians (eg in a band).

• Composition and songwriting.

• Equipment maintenance, gear selection. 

Some students have an ear and a desire for singing – I can help with basics here as well to round out their musical talent.  

I offer private one-on-one lessons from my home studio in Castle Hill, NSW. Online lessons are available, however are less preferred. In person lessons allow me to see exactly what the student is doing, which may need correcting. 

Most lessons will be 30 minutes, however older students or students preparing for a performance may benefit from a longer lesson (eg 45-60 minutes).

Tailored to the needs and goals of each student, lessons will follow a general structure of:

1. musical theory 

2. guitar technique 

3. a focus song that the student selects (this may carry over multiple lessons)  

Lessons are $50 per half hour. I do not charge GST. 

I provide a workbook for each student with the lessons that were developed by me. These are just $15, to cover the cost of printing. 

I also offer extra services relating to guitar maintenance:

• String changes - standard guitar (restring, fretboard clean, clean and polish guitar, tune): $30 + strings

• String changes - complex guitar (as above, but for a 12 string or electric guirar with a floating tremolo) $45 + strings

• Guitar setup (no floating tremolo, sorry) – string change service as well as intonation test, neck relief, string height adjustment, pickup height adjustment and intonation adjustment. $100 + strings

I keep a small stock of Elixir strings and guitar picks that may be purchased as required.
